Running In Service
Just a quick question from a newbie. Im looking at a CSL that has 16k on clock, 3 previous owners and in absolute mint condition. Its an 04 plate in SG with nearly all the options bar comfort screen. Everything seems to check out with the cars provenance in terms of milage, service history etc. It also comes with a full comprehensive BMW warranty. All recalls have been done etc. My only grumble with the car is the fact that the running in service was done at around 2,100 miles instead of 1,200 miles. Now im assuming BMW themselves dont have an issue with it as they have conducted quite a bit of warranty work out on car over last 3 years and they have allowed the current owner to extend the warranty, which ive been told they wouldnt if there was an issue with the running in service. Is this correct?? Is there a big issue with me buying a car that has its running in service 1,000 miles late?? Your thoughts would be welcome as its the only issue i have with car and im collecting it on saturday, fingers crossed!!!

I would steer clear TBH.
I bet you they wouldn't have warrantied the rear diff if that needs replacing. Mine did and that was the first question they asked. 2100 miles is clearly far away from the 1200 mile run-in service where the rear diff oil should be changed. |

Recently went to see a car and it had the run in service had been done at 2020miles.
I have a friend who works at BMW and he says BMW will give 500mile grace on this service so a max of 1750miles would be acceptable. Walk mate. Lee

I think Rags has a letter from BMW stating that they will honour upto 2000 miles. The other problem is if you only want to keep the car for a year or two then you may have trouble selling. If you plan on keeping the car for a long time then it will most likely be less of an issue in 10 years. Lee

That is exactly my concern - it is unlikely that i will keep it more than 2 years, mainly as i do put miles on cars and also i get bored and like to change and try new cars. When i come to sell this will then become my headache trying to reassure prospective buyers etc. Will have to speak to BMW Head Office tomorrow.
