The old 911 itch...
I'm going out of my mind, someone needs to help me
So I've had a 911 itch for a very long time, since 996 days, never owned one, always wanted to own one, for me it would be the pinnacle, forget Ferrari or Lambo's etc (with a few exceptions of course). I love GT3's, always have, for me a 991 GT3 Clubsport would be perfect for what I need. So, I know a few of you guys have gone down this road and gone to the Pork side of life. My question really is, have any of you regretted selling your Cecil to do this? I've had dear old Cecil for nearly 7 years now, we've been through a lot together, and he is by far the best car I've ever owned, I love him dearly, he's part of the family, he's really still my baby. I'm blessed, I have two great cars, I have the i8, and Cecil, I don't drive Cecil as much these days, but he's there for when I want the pure driving experience. Sometimes I wish I didn't love cars so much then I wouldn't have this problem! Or do I sell the i8 (fantastic car for what it is) and get something like a 997/991 GTS, which lets face it is a very capable car, would be able to keep Cecil too, but the GTS isn't as dynamic as the GT3. Or just keep what I have, stop moaning and shut up |

This effectively made it a GTS before Porsche made them a proper model variant. Lovely car but very different from the CSL, nowhere near as raw or nimble. And being a 4S you couldn't play with the rear end like you can with the CSL. Perhaps this would have been different if I had a 2WD variant but even then you have so much rubber on the road they are very difficult to unstick. As it was it reminded me very much of the B5 RS4 I once owned. My main memory of the car now is the engines turbine smooth effortless torque. All very grown up, not like the hooligan CSL. I'd never have considered tracking it. I took the CSL for a spin last night and fell in love all over again. I always slip into the 'it's not that special, it looks like a boggo M3' mode. Then I go drive it and see it sitting the the filling station forecourt as I wait to pay. Yum! All of the above not withstanding if I could get myself into a 997 or later GT3 then the CSL would go, but I just can't get myself over the mental hurdle of paying so much for a 'sunny day car'. |

After a few drives in a cesil we chose it for practical reasons. The boot, not 4 seats for holidays. I still love any gt3, but I have gone off Pork for the following reasons, hence my itch is going away on its own: 1. Cost 2. I found the Cayman a more enjoyable drive than a 911 at the PEC (a half-day session in each) 3. I found the Cayman boring after two weekends & approx. 500 miles of mainly A & B roads. Nice everyday car but not a weekend toy. The badge impressed a few people. 4. After 11 years I still get a buzz out of cesil & I look forward to driving it. |

I understand your point and I agree with what the others wrote above. I sometimes also fancy a change, but this usually passes after driving the CSL. I would love a manual gearbox and I would fancy a 997 GTS or an Aston Martin V12 Vantage. I cannot see myself selling the CSL though. After nearly a year since last used took the CSL to Circuit de Bretagne again and enjoyed the drive down, then the track time in the wet and sun on new cup 2 tyres, had so much fun really upset a few people with the way the car handled in the bends and the noise, I keep thinking of a GT3 and have looked at a few, but looking forward to next track time in the old girl

I went through this quandary. Sold my SG CSL to buy my GT2 a few years back, it was and probably still is my dream car. It harks from a day when sportscars weren't all "shouty".
However, I did buy another CSL (which I still own ). They are both amazing cars and surprisingly similar in DNA. I am currently contemplating selling the CSL, just don't use it to be honest. However, the 996 will be staying with me forever, it's truly epic in every sense and such a capable car. I also love the fact that 99% of people don't realise what it is. I do love the shape of it also... (any excuse for a pic!) That probably hasn't helped, in fact my head now hurts... |

So after 8yrs with csl needed a fresh experience even though csl still did it for me. 991 GT3 as a car is obvs way way ahead and I don't even have skills or experience to exploit it road or track. Absolutely everything really is so much better, but then so it should be!!! Enjoyment wise even tick over and bit of traffic creep are better! But also it can be a bit frustrating sometimes on the road because it is just so quick and keeps pulling a lot harder for a lot longer. CSL can be really enjoyed to full in 2nd 3rd but in gt3 these seem to go so quick that it's 4th that really delivers it's full fat . So for me with the odd easy track day it's mega. Absolutely no regrets.
