Not driven them on a 'heavy' car like a CSL (yes, I know but mine has the options, so heavy!!!) but many friends use them on their 993, 996 & 997 Porsches. There was an internet 'rumour' that R888 had a sidewall that was too soft for a 1300Kg+ car on track, their use on similar weighted Porsches suggests they will be fine.
Has to be worth a go, comments on them suggest they are not quite as sticky as CSL cups, on par with the newer e92 Cup+ and better than both in the wet (although everything is relative!) |

Yes I have used them. On track the rears overheat very quickly and go off, great as a road tyre as they don't need warming up anything like the cups.

That seems a shame. Perhaps try these Dunlops thingys as per my Donny thread:
http://www.cslregister.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1370 I did a couple of 15-20 laps sessions around there and the rears didn't overheat. They wore quite evenly too. Camskill have some although I'm not sure if they do CSL rims sizes. I was using std M3 rears alround, 265/30ZR18 (Camskill have them on offer at £155 a corner in those sizes at the moment)... Quote:

I have used the R888's on my standard M3. I did 2 days at Spa last year, and 2 track days at Knockhill and there's probably another couple left in them!! I didn't feel they went off at Spa at all and it was roasting when I was there!! I have 235's and 275's and I thought they were excellent. I had KW Clubsport suspension on right enough, I guess this could have helped, but the handling/grip was excellent. It rained for about an hour one afternoon, and I thought I would take it easy, but I gradually got quicker on them and found them to be good in the wet as well. I have a spare set of 18" M3 wheels with these on them, but I believe they now come in 19" sizes. I paid £580 in total for 4, can't remember the prices off the top of my head front to rear at the moment, but don't know how much the 19's are!? Road noise is pretty bad at low speeds, but I suppose there has to be some compromise??

Maybe different driving styles but there was very little traction compared to cups, was on Intrax suspension and at the 'ring so no where near as hard on tyres as Spa. Was a trackday and they would start getting really squirmy about half way to 2/3 of the way through a lap.
What lap times were you doing at Spa? |

I never actually timed one!!! It was my first time driving there. I've been a passenger many times, but thought I'd just enjoy my first event rather than going for it. Although I ended up flying!! I'm going back this June (15th and 16th), although I might not have the M3 this time, but I'll defo be timing a couple this year!!! Lol. It was pouring when I went to the ring straight after Spa, so never really had a good go on there.
