Car has a non-standard rear diffuser... or is it just the photos?

Looks like a few of those 16,000 miles were quite hard, doesn't it? Can't say it looks in much better condition than mine does with 107,000 more.

I'd say most of them
So much for that " low mileage CSLs better than any other " BS .

That thing looks like it's had a right old kicking from most of its 5 previous owners Poor Cecil

Obviously I am in the market for a CSL and I am not sure that we can make these assumptions.

If the steering wheel is badly steam cleaned then it could account for this appearance. I had one of theses steering wheels on my E30 and it looked awful after a month.

What we need to know before we assume that the car has had a hard life is:
Has the floor been replaced: Binary: yes "probably tracked in view of low mileage" / no "represents it's low mileage"

Has the car been painted (eg track gravel rash)

Any signs of wing corrosion: daily use/road salt

If the car has not been painted, the floor is original and is on the original tyres (I suspect there will be receipts for tyre changes) then it might be that it has had one owner with sweaty hands

The thing of most concern to me is the reason for the rear diffuser replacement and why it wasn't replaced with a genuine one (or if it is genuine, why it hasn't been painted properly).

You're right. To be fair, 16,000 miles is still over half way round the world, even if it's done over 13 years. My motorbike definitely didn't look brand new at 16,000 miles. It looked well used, so if it any of the 5 previous owners weren't the Star Wars Collectibles mint-in-original-packaging type then it's inevitably going to pick up a few scratches here and there.

Also a lot of/probably nearly all of the high mileage cars have had crap-loads of stuff replaced over their life times, where as this might be 16,000 miles of factory original parts. Whether or not that matters to you is personal preferences. It obviously matters to someone otherwise they wouldn't be worth more.

A 13 year old car that just needs the steering wheels replaced and is otherwise completely original is actually pretty good, isn't it?

Gravel rash can come from our roads look at the state of them, at least the tracks are in very good condition, so not much chance of the rash unless you go into the kitty litter

Exactly right Craig Track surfaces are pristine by comparison to our filthy UK roads especially this time the year.
