I agree.

When I had my BBK installed, I was really surprised at the weight of the OEM calipers & discs in comparison to the BBK. The OEM's are so heavy!!! You would have thought with all that effort to reduce weight, and make the car such a 'focused' machine, that BMW would have put a better setup on the car.

It's an ESS supercharger (top of the range CFR 525 i think), and not cheap...!

Would never butcher a CSL with a supercharger...as a limited model a standard car will always be desirable in the future. If you want to mess with the engine do it to a standard M3 I say......
Andy, that shouldn't be an issue. All the mods are reversable and the original CSL engine is pulled and stored in a box. Base engine is a E46 M3 motor with low comps, etc. Personally I think 700+bhp is over the top, but the 550bhp conversion is very tempting.

Excuse my ignorance but didn't realise it was a complete new engine. Thought it was just a case of bolting the SC to the original engine...learn something new everyday.

Think it was that BMW wanted the CSL to appeal to a wider audiance than just the track day crew so it needed have good manners on the road and not squeal and squeek everytime you press the brake which seems to happen with the extreme brake kits. Although it was billed as a stripped out racer for the track BMW wanted it to be the ultimate road M3......Or thats what the BMW PR departrment told me when I went over for a business trip to Munich.

The lower power supercharger kits are bolt on but not the one on this car. The owner wanted to save breaking open the lowish mile, original engine to fit the required pistons, etc. I believe the M3 motor used was second hand, rebuilt with low compression pistons, modified fuel rails, etc. A similar spec engine is in a matt black wrapped Swedish owned M3 that will be attempting to break the Loaded CSL's Ring record. Looking to break a full lap in less than 7.22! Good luck with that.

That was the Loaded csl. This is a different car, an M3, looking to break that record lap. It'll be at least Spring before it happens now.
