Apple Cross - Bealoch Na Ba
Just wondered if anyone had tackled this run. i plan on taking it on next weekend.
The circular drive to Applecross from Shieldaig is one of the finest drives in Europe. The road rises 2,300 feet from sea level in just a few miles (Britain's highest mountain pass) and has spectacular views over the Minch to the Isle of Skye, and stunning empty beaches. So although it's only 40 miles, leave a few hours, and try really hard to make the trip when the weather is clear or you'll be in the clouds I will be sure to take loads of pics and some vids of the run....hope the weather is nice for it. |

I've flown to Applecross a few times in a helicopter. It is a stunning location but is rather remote!

It certainly is, but that is one of the attractions. Nice relaxing weekend topped off with a blast down one of the best driving roads in britain. It is only 207miles from my front door!!

I do this route once or twice a year.
If you're going for the scenery, then you'll love it. I can honestly say that in all the places I've been in this world, the view out to Skye and the surrounding isles is something everyone should see at least once in their lives. It's truly breathtaking. However, the drive is a bit of a let-down. If you're fortunate enough to time your route to avoid the hordes of tourists, any progress you intend to make will be scuppered by roads that are in need of repair. Oh and the sheep Nevertheless, the drive over to that side of the country from Inverness is utterly fantastic and the roads are wide and open enough to make really swift progress in relative safety. The Applecross Inn also serves the best fish and chips in the land Have fun
