Ahh classic confusing typo!!

I had one and only one mate, if I'd had two I'd be bankrupt by now!

On one occasions back in 2006 I tried to P/X as the car I was looking at (2000 MY E46 328i Sport Touring) which was right up my street, so to speak but the dealer gave me the usual "Glassy Guide Bull S**T" as if it was the fooking Bible... it's a guide, an estimate, ball park figure not the Holly grail I said ... I had a 2003 VW Passat SE 130 PD TDI, ex fleet, F VW SH, one owner, with 124K on the clock daily shitter I picked up at BCA for £4600 six months previous with 100 K on the clock ... he tried his luck with a £3500 p/x offer against his £5995 for a 2000 E46 328i Touring with 120K on the clock (greedy fook) Suffice to say I walked away (despite really wanting the E46 Touring he had)... that same night I advertised my VW on AUTOTRADER for £5995, some £500 less then the rest, few days later a local punter turns up with £5800 cash, bought my VW Passat on the spot and drove it home same day a happy man... Same night I check if the dealer still has the E46 Touring... good news, he has, and better still he's dropped the price to £5795... the following day I re visit the same dealer, check the Touring over, make him my only offer of £5000 cash there & then... his attitude all very different now that I'm a cash buyer with no P/X... he happily accepts the £5K deal and I drive home in the car I wanted all along, just a week later and £800 up, not £2495 down ... it pays to stick to your guns
Read your story again Matt,

You dont like dealers because they make money on you, but you shafted the private punter for £1200 if your reasoning adds up.

You came out of that ok.

Sometimes people do take the piss, but if the offer of part ex is near enough I will take it, saves dealing with bellends.

Ive told some traders to go fuck themselves as they were very very greedy,

Some you win, some you lose.

NO m8... there is making money (which is fine as we all have bills to pay) and then there is taking the total PISS. More often then not, car dealers chance it and try to take the PISS... but unfortunately for them I'm not your average punter, often knowing more about their cars, then they do.
I didn't force the private punter to do anything... he's the one who called me and asked to view my car... he's also the one who said he'll be happy to pay me £5800 cash there & then if I accepted it as my VW was the best & cheapest he's looked at.
Dito about dealing with bellends... there's pleanty of these in the Trade as well as in Private sales ... I remember once telling a particularly fooking dense dealer, if he was going to fook me, he should at the very least buy me dinner first You should have seen his mug ... priceless

It really does depend on the type of car and if the dealer feels it is salable....I had alsorts of offers for my CSL last year.....I sold for 25k but px, depending on who you go to ranges from 17k to 21k....My TVR T350T is worth around 20k - 22k...dealer offered 15k a few weeks ago. If it was a car that they could shift easy then I'm sure it wouyld be more....Troulbe with these specialist cars is there are not many buyers.
