Hi all,

First post but long time lurker lol!

Anybody know the car for sale here?

https://www.classiccarshop.co.uk/hom...ean/bmw-m3-csl

Looks good and priced about right.

Terrible advert and the seller seems a little reluctant to give details on email and i don't really want to have a phone conversation or a viewing if it doesn't stack up.
Mileage doesn't bother me as long as its got the history and all the "jobs" have been done.

When asked if its had RACP done and any engine work eg head gasket, Vanos, bearings i'm told the boot floor and engine etc. is in A1 condition, best hes ever seen, and he's had several low mileage cars. Not actually what i asked.
But then it's described as Dolphin Grey, they only come in 2 colours so hard to get wrong for somebody who has had several, No?
Also listed as manual.

Full BMWSH no specialists, which i see as a negative, i can see AP brakes, when i ask if any mods or extras he doesn't answer the question.

Seller then tells me it was PX'd by a very wealthy client against a very expensive 911, (not sure why he would think that is relevant and not tell me about the history??)! and it stands him at £35k

All in all looks nice but distant alarm bells are ringing, and the seller comes across as pushy he also says will go into auction if not sold within 10 days with a £35k reserve.

What do you guys think?

Cheers

Andy

Doesn't seem to have been shown that much love since 2010.
Wouldn't buy without having it checked over by someone who knows these cars e,g. Gareth

Hopefully someone will be along who knows this car

Hi Andy,
Whenever anyone is pushy it is usually for a reason (and not a good one). Fools rush in where angels fear to tread and all that.

A genuine seller will offer up every piece of information they can and answer every question in as much detail as possible to allay any fears.

Anyone that doesn't is either doing so because they don't know about or understand the car they are selling (which given his boast of selling several low mileage ones is unlikely), or have something to hide by being evasive (which means they can deny they knew about at a later date).

If you really want the car, ask if they are happy to have it inspected by a a CSL specialist and see what they say - if it is a genuine car, they will not have any problem, if it has something going on that they want to avoid being found out, then they will be reluctant (and make every excuse possible why it can't happen).

Thanks Mike,

Good advice i feel.

Predictably when asked if he would object to an expert opinion he told me he's a qualified motor engineer with a masters in motor engineering and doesn't sell accident damaged cars.
Then said he wouldn't have a problem with an expert looking but clock is ticking as going into a top auction.
I think the idea is to provoke me into a reactive viewing.

Not the car for me i think, i'm more interested in history/previous owners than anything else, as they say, the one thing you can't change on a car is history or previous owners!

Still don't understand why he wont answer basic questions like number of owners or SH though, ah well, onwards and upwards

Andy
PS
thanks for also replying on cutters

Don't think EO53 has ever come up on here before, unless it was on a private plate.

It's back up for sale on Autotrader. Found the registration and had a search on here, finding this tread.

Featured in MrJWW's modern classics YouTube video too.
