Any of our BMW service guys have an idea what the problem is ?

Usually happens when the ignition is turned on when cold, doesn't happen when hot, also rev counter and fuel/temp gauges don't work when the error shows. Brand new battery.(not CSL)

Low battery voltage maybe or your cluster needs reprogramming

Checking the net shows it could be an EEPROM fault and/or a dry joint.

As mentioned it doesn't happen on the 2nd start when the car is warm, everything is normal.
