I wonder how long it'll be before BMW will no longer warrantee the cars, surely at some point they'll say "enough is enough you're on your own"..???
The fact that parts are becoming NLA will cause this IMO as they won't want cars sitting around waiting on parts they may never arrive whilst lending out brand new cars.

If Cecil was my only car & a daily driver then I would most likely continue the monthly DDs but since mine has always had BMW/Mondial Warranty throughout its life (until last year) and it's my other, other car used for only 6 months of the year, it's simply not economically viable It becomes prohibitively expensive for Cecils with over 60K miles + many parts are excluded when you pass the 60K mark.

Not very long Just ask any Cecil owner with BMW/Mondial Warranty currently waiting for a new engine

I'm not sure how they can do this if you have a monthly policy as it doesn't end! No renewal necessary.

I've had a fair few things replaced on mine in its life, too long to list but most recently as you know my starter motor at €700 to replace which was paid without issue. I'm with a few lads on this, it would be Sod's law.

I think they can, I checked the T's & C's on that one. No renewal necessary, but they can choose to change the price to reflect how much it is actually costing them, so they could make it prohibitively expensive.

Would anyone know if there's problem with warranty claims if brakes have been upgraded to AP etc. I would presume not as they're not covered anyway?

Serpentine, some dealers may make a fuss but "no" the brakes would not be covered anyway. Just stick to the dealers who are more adaptable/flexible such as ELMs. Or ask on here for recommendations on someone nearer to you.

As for the warranty per se, I do not think that they are as common place anymore as most have prohibitively high mileage or have saved the money instead.

I have had my warranty since 2007 but have only made one claim for rear springs so it has not really made economic sense.

Not the same car but I'm just about to cancel the warranty on my e90 M3, had it 2 years and in that time the only thing has been the DVD player for the sat nav which I could've sent away to have fixed for a couple of hundred quid. The warranty claim was massive as they broke a wire behind the dash when swapping it resulting in half the dash coming out, new loom and associated labour but the numbers aren't representative of the real cost if I'd sorted it myself.
