I'm tempted to get an E46 M3 as a runabout - preferably in one of the rarer colours rather than black, silver, grey, dull, dull, dull!
I love them in silver grey does that make me dull?
Can be hard to find a good one that wont ruin your wallet, now I know mine has,5k spent on it in the last year and not on mods either. They are great cars though but nothing like the csl.

Do you use a standard M3 as a daily drive Monkey? What age/spec?

I am hoping to pick one up that is ideally full BMWSH having had recent tyres/brakes to reduce any potential outlay.

I do yes it's a 53 plate on 75k was 68 when I bought it.it has Harmon kardon manual box electric seats csl wheels d2 coilovers braided lines with BMW performance brakes running csl size discs rogue rear bushes spacers front rear with scorpion rear box, updated gear linkages.I changed all fluids diff gearbox etc and maf coils vanos filter fuel filter vanos solenoid, then I had it corner weighted and set up to csl spec geo and lower ride height limit for the csl.
Rust can be an issue rear quarters front wings rear number plate rear boot lock door catches as you are well aware.

Sounds like you've done a fair amount of mods to her!

I will keep mine largely standard save for decent pads, upgraded brake lines, etc. I will get a facelift car and would rather it be SMG I guess but I am curious to know how a manual M3 feels compared to the CSL or standard SMG.

I did test drive a manual M3 CS back in late 2007 and I do remember preferring it to a standard M3 SMG that i drove back to back at the same time. I had yet to sample the delights of a CSL at that point which i did shortly afterwards and thats when my requirements totally changed!

I definitely want something a little more unusual and Imola is one of them along with Laguna Seca Blue.

Some of the Individual colours are great too but rare of course.

Manual all day its a bit clunky but less to go wrong and normal smg won't be as good as csl one,and you can practice heel and toe don't think normal m3 autoblips on downchange unlike csl.
For the money they cant be beat good economy great drivers cars that still look great and has big boot and room for four.
