Bit of advice
My Mrs 120 petrol 1 series 59 plate
when you get gear wrong at low revs Engine light comes on then goes off, Been told by stelers that it could be coil pack £25 or sensor £300 what sensor would this be for that sort of money ??? Thanks Vic |

Coil pack will make it sound like a tractor from experience.

Hi Vic, Sorry to hear you have the troublesome N43 engine
If BMW could turn back time they'd definately erase this one!! Basically it will be a coil, plug or injector. BMW dealer will tell you that all 3 need to be replaced on the effected cylinder to achieve a permanent repair. This is true to an extent, they have made the injectors relatively cheap to compensate for this. (approx £100 plus vat). From experience with a car of your age its most likely to be the coil pack. I would replace this first, its a very easy job to do yourself if you're even slightly mechanically minded. Coils are approx £25 plus vat. I have seen repeat faults on the effected cylinder if all 3 components are not replaced, but this is not a certainty. Probably worth a punt at this stage just to replace the failed component and monitor. You will probably end up replacing all coils, plugs & injectors at some point in the cars life. |
