Default CSLs with replaced engines

I am in the market and have noticed a couple of second engine CSLs out there on pistonheads, etc. Is there a specific reason why a number of these cars have had their engines replaced? Just want to know if there is anything I need to be concerned about.

Thanks,

John

With the BMW warranty as good as it is BMW sanction new ones rather than replacing parts. I would say one with a new engine supplied by BMW would be a better buy than one with the same mileage with 1st engine.

Depends what type of buyer, if it is someone who is going to do minimal miles as a collector then matching numbers original car is going to be far better and worth much more in the future. Look at 964RS with and without original engine, huge difference in price.

I would buy one with a new engine over one without depending on price

My engine was replaced with what looked like oil starvation on the exhaust cam and wear in the bores the big ends looked fine.

Just my view on this after all my car is for sale and has a new engine

Where would you find the info ? If its the V5 then would this not be amended if you told the DVLA?

I wouldn't know where you would find it and how you would check.

If you want the car for what it was intended - to be driven, then a car with a new engine for whatever reason would IMO be preferable over a car with the original, particularly if has been replaced under warranty by a Dealership.
It's the next best thing to buying it new, albeit used.

That's what I thought Neil. I'm not up on the 964s that Nathan mentioned.

I am in agreement with you, but just wanted to see if there was anything to be worried about. After doing a bit of searching, I have realized that dealers honor warranties a bit differently on your side of the pond.

I am more concerned about the CSL I end up with being reliable and easy on the wallet, rather then it being a collector car. Never been much for garage queens. However, if you could point me in the direction of a cheap 964RS I would appreciate it.
