So, I picked up my car on Thursday from Munich Legends... the oil service turned into a full check of the car, that resulted in various faults being found

1. Blown head gasket
2. Leaking PAS hose
3. Light ride height sensor not working
4. Rear exhaust mounts perished
5. NSR spring cracked
7. NSR upper ball joint requiring replacement
8. Exhaust flange repair required

They had the car for 8 days... but now she's all fixed and sounds better than ever.

The head gasket failure is common on cars above 60,000 as the tolerances are very small... see picture below. The replacement gasket is stronger.

However, my head gasket failure was caused by overtighening by previous technician after checking value clearances.. that we're incorrectly done.

ML comments are; "valve shimming found to be incorrect. All shims too tight. 15 new shims needed to correct. Cylinder gasket split in 4 places".

Anyway, I am extremely lucky as the head was ok and did not need skimming... something not recommended hence I could have needed a new block... CSL block impossible to get hold of? My car could have been a write off!

Well there are two great garages to look after your CSL - long live Elms and ML.

Finally, they told me my bloody boot is cracked... now I need to get that fixed...

My car waiting to be taken back home... whilst I was there there were 2 black CSLs in the showroom...

The head gasket problem could have got scary

We're there any signs the hg had failed prior to you dropping it off at ML ?

Before dropping it off the car was idling poorly... hunting around. It had been soing this since I bought it so I thought it was normal! Now it idles perfectly just below 1,000 rpm.

On cold start I used to get rattling, when warmed this would go but after a while I noticed faint engine smell in the cabin.

If your car is idling poorly and rattles on cold start better get it checked.

Hmm, one of those two black ones was mine, now in even ruder health after a full ML going over. Also had a cracked boot floor which they sorted for me through Vines, very impressed.

Unfortunately now sold.... Has it gone to anyone on here?
