Default Dry storage

So the winter months using the CSL less have given me an idea that I am researching and would welcome some views.

I've stopped using the car on the track because I don't like the wear and tear, and the speeds justify a rollcage and all the race gubbins which would ultimately devalue the car. So to deal with that I've bought half of a cheap e36 M3 track bitch and am thinking of getting into low-end racing to satisfy the track urges. So this means that my CSL has become a car for short journeys once a week to keep her fresh, perhaps with the odd track outing, but mainly for special occasions. The car has currently got 65k miles. It's not the most practical car for transporting the family without the daily dinks and wear that upset me greatly.

Meantime, I've been getting itchy for a Nissan GTR. I've seen the debate on the Register, but I quite fancy one. Wicked value for the money and newer, and it can handle the family grind. However, I don't want to sell the CSL as I know that I'll regret it if I do and would end up buying back into a car maybe for more money than I sold mine for, and I wouldn't know where it's been.

So...assuming that CSL values continue to hold, I'm thinking of switching the insurance, declaring it SORN and putting the CSL into dry storage. I can then buy a GTR (subject to some creative accounting and lying to the missus, plus starving my kids a bit).

Anyone on here ever stored their CSL with a storage facility, and got any idea of costs, anything to look out for, etc?

I rent a unit that I store my CSL and fiesta in, plus trailer, enables me to work on both and go when I want. I keep thinking of putting the CSL on sorn and saving road tax, but then what if I just fancy a spin.

Not really much help I know, but if you have the e36 then would you not be better off with a unit?

Mines in storage at the moment. Dry storage, under cover and connected to a trickle charger your roughly looking at 20-30 quid a week from the places I looked at.

I was about to say there is a place in cheshire that charges £125 p/m, trickle charged, tyre savers, de-humidified and all that stuff

4 axle stands and wheels in the corner is the best solution?

Go in raceramps website and have a look at them, suspension on full droop over a long period isnt good for the shocks, raceramps flatstoppers stops the tyres flatting

'tis a good idea Steve especially as GregorJPs E36 M3 Track Slag is 50-50 share so the cost of the unit could hopefully be shared too.

Agreed, thanks all. Renting a unit could be a good option, although will still have to insure the Cecil. The going rate for storage seems to be, as you all identified, around £25-£30 per week for a nice dude to start her up once a month and hopefully not do a Ferris Bueller.

My track slag Rodney (or, as Matt correctly identified, my 50% of him) may soon be for sale as we've maybe found a replacement track project. So if anyone knows of anyone after an e36 track machine, let me know. May put him in the For Sale section soon, together with a Brian James trailer.

Now I have a cunning plan, I'm furiously scouring for a good GTR. Although I will probably talk myself out of it tomorrow.
