Default APPS

Hi,

Would it be a fairly safe assumption that
most on here have numerous APP's on their
Phones, Tablet's etc with several games
to boot, but use just a handful of those numerous Apps,
because they are useful or actully do assist,
and play within reason mostly the same 2/3 games
even though they have many more to select from ?

I am assiting my Son with some R&D for his Web
business, and it seems within reason that the APPs
market is now saturated with 1'000's of applications,
almost arriving weekly and in lots of cases unknown,
and if selected for downloaded never do much else.

www.casehut.com is his web business.

He is looking to expand the Business regarding
Apps content and its use.

iPhone, Google and to a lesser extent Blackbury cover
the main Apps, but to what use they really are for the
majority that obtain them seems almost irrelvent,
in that some Apps, more so amongst the Teenage generation
is almost like a 'badge' or a sort of ' must have''.

Would be helpful and interesting to know what the general consensus
is reagrding Apps and if their use when obtained and application
was really worth it ?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hi Danny,

My opinion is 'it depends'.
There are APPS that you will install and you will use frequently, but this is for the same 'service' that you frequently use in your computer.
An example is 'google maps', 'ebay', 'ricardo (for CH)' etc.
Other APPS like "BMW offers" you will not use very often.
Without having the stats, I doubt that people use APPS from webshops unless it's a very big one and with a variety of products (i.e. ebay).

Having had a quick look in your son's website (which looks very good btw), I would personally suggest to invest in marketing through Facebook/Twitter (i.e. broadcasting offers, news etc // which btw I saw he is doing).
An APP for a webshop selling mobile products wouldn't probably have ROI.

Last but not least, if he is sending newsletter I would advise that he is does it rarely and with interesting news.
I am fecking tired of webshops spamming me every day !

That's my 2 cents.

on the csl register

On the app side of things most people jailbreak there phones and ipads so the apps are free so i dont see a market for them most people that dont have a jailbroken phone use apple appstore

Hi,

Mark CSL- No, I am not trying to promote
my Sons Website via the CSL Forum, if
I was trying to do that I could have used
my Avatar in some way to do that.

I listed it to show it actually exists !!!

The virtual world is full of deception by perception.

AlexK- no his intention is to not to re-sell or
offer Apps for sale, there are 1'000 making
a hash of that already.
He is more interested in the 'real world' usefulness of
Apps content that actually delivers a benefit rather than
a glossy promise that delivers nothing and consumes
space.

He is also trying to shift the focus away from personal
likes and dislikes and dwell more on
everday content and benefit.

Social media sites are currently used in all the wrong ways
and I am sure there will big changes when they are understood
in how they can actually be used for benefit rather than
a lot of the nonsense and rubbish they promote at present.

As you point out, nobody is reading it anymore and even
less are listening.

As they say in New York, ''don't piss on my
shoes and then tell me its raining''.

The Gorilla.

Gorilla, my day job is as a lawyer advising media and technology businesses . Those clients of mine that run successful apps usually use them as (1) an adjunct or driver for their core web businesses (ie. they are secondary) or (2) an autonomous revenue source where consumers pay for a valuable service provided by the app. The key to a successful app appears to be marketing effort, pure and simple. The majority of apps langour on the app store and do very little business.

Your son should aim to do what this guy did: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/tech...-i-am-ric.html

Or become like one of my favourite clients: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16306742

In return for these nuggets of legal insight, maybe you can tell me why my rear brake pads keep cooking? Running APs on front and back (just the calipers at the back). I've now been through 2 sets in 3,000 miles and am onto some yellow stuff pads that have also started squealing badly (the first sign of disaster, based on the 2 previous sets.

Hi,

GregorJP- Scottish Lawyer by any chance ???

Many thanks for the insight/Links.

Ok, calculated guess's, your front to rear
bias is off/out, and your rear's are doing more
of the Braking.

If your Front to rear Balance is say 60/40,
everything is working, ie no ABS Lights or Codes etc,
so your rears would be working at nearly 50% more
than in normal F-R split.

75 F -25 R is approx the norm.

If your not boiling the fluid and its just the rear
pads being consumed at an alarming rate then
it would seem like F/R bias.

If the rear Pad wear is even, its points to F/R bias,
if one side is wearing a lot more than the other it
also points that the ABS unit could be at fault.

The other item worth checking would be the
rear caliper piston seals to make sure that the
pistons are re-tracting correctly with pedal off,
as poor seals or deformed pistons sometimes do not allow the
pistons to fully retract, hence the rears work
a lot more.

Many thanks again on behlaf of my Son for
your assistance,

Regards,

The Gorilla.

Hi,

MarkCSL - No I understand, and I apologise
if you believe I was out of order.

I was just trying to illustrate that this all exists and
its just a father trying to assist his son.

Its not a cheap shot at advertising or promotion, its
just that head strong 23 year olds seem to do first
and ask later.

I was trying to obtain feedback/information across the Specturm
so that an informed view is formed, appraised and the
business model is a more tailored approach rather than
this seems like a good idea, I am going to do it.

23 year olds do not have any experince of a recession.

Hope that clarifies the matter.

Many thanks,

Regards,

The Gorilla.
