Default Many code troubles + doubt

Today I've put the tester for check 2 problems...

FIRST : one month ago when I m was on the race track, waiting on the pit lane before go on the track the transmission light is lit when I started the engine... I turned off and start again and the light disappeared...

SECOND : I'm was driving on the freeway at 120km/h at low load and the engine light turner on... I tried to turn off and on the engine but the light was still here.

So today I saw than the transmission code was:

- '' Error gear selector ''
- '' heated oxygen sensor second row Befor catalyst )

( sorry I haven't check the code number )

My question is : These are known problems ?

- for the SMG, is that the '' beginning of the end '' ( my car has 53'000 km )
- for the Oxygen sensor, does you would change the both sensor or only the defective ?

And I have also an other BIG question !

I feel than my clutch slips a little bit at ''cold'' and after 3-4 upshifting everything is ok the clutch is very aggressive...

So I begin to look some informations about it and I saw on internet that apparently the CSL get many problems with the SMG. I heard than BMW has a new Soft where the shifting is faster, more aggressive and the clutch slip less...

So I went to BMW for ask about it and they told me than I have to change my whole gear box because it's a disease on the M3 and my light announced the beginning of the end.

And they told me than there isn't any new soft from BMW... And it's often a source of problems to update the Control Unit...

Does someone can help me ?

thank you

Regarding the oxygen sensors, mine displayed a warning light, and when the codes were read it had errors for both sensors. However, just one was replaced (pre-cat as far as I remember) and that then fixed it with no more warnings

BTW, I think it takes 3 full restarts before a warning light will disappear if there's no longer a problem. Mine did for a couple of months, but then came back on all the time

Sounds like your dealer hasnt got a clue - gearbox relacement for warning light on can you imagine how many scrap cars there would be , it could be as simple as low battery voltage or faulty sensor but would need further testing to find out . Software can sometimes improve gearchange but normally resetting gearbox and clutch adaption values helps unless your clutch or flywheel is worn out . As for oxygen sensor fault normally replace the faulty sensor .

Yes I know than the problem is not the gearbox and I would not change it... But I said that for show how much they don't know anything about this car and te day when I ll really have something wrong I ll alone for fix it ^^

Anyway I m just a little bit confuse because I ll make the Inspection II by my self in 7'000 km and I don't have access for doing everything like reset the gearbox after servicing...

Does with take off the battery is that enough for reset or I need the computer ???

Thank you

Regards Oxy sensors, before owt else, are you running OEM zorst system or other ? If other system, even just a back box, then the light will come off and on all time.

No I'm full stock for the moment... the problems is not directly the Oxy sensor but the heating of the sensor (i don't know in english but in french thats call ''court-circuit'' ) so every time I turn on the engine the light is on even if I erased the code before...

Hi you can reset service light without computer but to set up gerbox/clutch needs BMW computer as it activates various stages of gearshift and clutch operation so it can learn where the positions are . sorry this doesnt help you .

Yep GT1 will do all that you need......O2 sensor prob need replacing the heating part is part of the sensor. They wear as time goes on, may as well replace both sensors while you are there, reset adaptations with GT1 and notice how much better the engine will perform....

As for Gearbox, as said before probably just a one off....so get the code cleared and see what happens.

You can clear most codes by disconnecting the +ive and -ive terminals of the battery for 30 mins about.
