Default Oil pressure issues

Good morning,

Sorry I've been quiet on it, we're currently trying to move house and this was the last thing I was needing right now.

After a nice 'run' last weekend, pulled into the drive and could hear 'an unusual' rattling/knocking even coming from the rear/bottom of the engine when you put your head down behind the front wheel. I didn't drive it all week last week, booked it into BMW and dropped it off Monday. I noticed the VANOS was being particularly noisy too, but having had a fook VANOS before 25K miles ago, didn't think it would be this. Coincidently, the oil level reading was showing -.- until I stepped outside the car park at the dealership to show the service manager only for the damn thing to read +0.6l! I asked him to check it out too.

Cars pulling as it should, no unusual water/oil readings, driving fine.

Got a call Sat morning saying they reckon it could be the VANOS but not 100% sure yet, they're still diagnosing it.

Anyone any suggestions? Car is at 49K now, FBMWSH and most importantly, full BMW warranty, phew!

Oil Level readign -- is normal, it explains why in the manual.

Knocking from bottom of engine - big ends?

-.- indicates that it's struggling to get a reading when used for short journeys, but it hadn't been a short journey and even the run to the garage was about 40 mins.

They're replacing the sensor anyway under warranty and as far as the knocking/rattling noise is concerned, they're running a 'PUMA' Diagnostics tests with BMW (???) to see if they can find a fault but they still believe it's a Oil pressure issue.

They shouldnt need puma for a knockin noise as they only as good as info they are given and diagnostic machine wont show cause, could be be big ends or worn rockers if had oil pressure issues .
