Hi guys i need your advices once again. Please help.
Problem is the following: The electronic system self shutdowns the motor when i want to start it. So i turn the ignition key and the moment the engine would start it just simply goes off with a BRRRRRRRR sound. today was the third time this happened since i bought the car (this year september). For the first 2 cases i called the bmw mobileservice, they pluged in their laptop, reseted the electronics and woala engine started again, but they couldnt explain the cause. lol? So im asking you guys if you have any idea what the hell causing this problem? The first case happened after 1 month i bought the car, at first i thought maybe because i left the car for 2 weeks in the garage and didint drive it, but after another 1 month it happened once again while i had a trip to Landsberg, i parked for about 20 minutes and then when i wanted to start the same shit happened. its a bit frustrating. please help thanks in advance

Sounds like your alternator is giving up slowly (very common on the CSL) and you're not getting a full charge back to the battery. This usually happens around this time of the year as the days get shorter/colder and you start using more of the electrical components in the car, all at once, putting a greater demand on the alternator and the battery . Get a mechanic to do a full electrical test on the car including the alternator voltage output.

Sounds like you may have an earthing problem perhaps...... There is a earthing strap under the car which goes from the engine to the chassis this can sometimes rust/corrode.
If the earth is bad it causes the ecu to go into some strange mode, where you cannot restart the car until you reset adaptations using GT1 etc. Worth a look. |

Car should still start with a dodgy alternator as long as there is sufficient charge in the battery......

Many thanks for the suggestions. I better call the mobileservice again and check these things. How much Volt does a newly bought alternator have to produce? 14?
