SMG Gear Indicator Flashing

Noticed something interesting:

I started my CSL after getting in and "shutting" the door. After engaging 1st I noticed the gear number display would stop flashing. The only time I've seen this is when the car is between gears. Thought I broke the box. Turns out it does this if the doors aren't closed properly!

A bit dimwitted on my part I know, since there is a display for open doors!

Will also flash as you are driving along if the bonnet catch isnt quite down and making the micro switch
