Default Another stupid question

Does the Air Con display dim with the rest of the dashbord lights?? Stealership says its not supposed to, but my E46 Touring does although the units are slightly different.
Get the impression that the stealership are going to be difficult to get warranty work out of!!( Need Mark to come down) Funny how technician recommends the replacing the VANOs system when he saw the car, yet the service department is adamant its just the tappets and won't need doing. Tend to believe the technician myself!!
