Noticed tonight that the wing mirror cowling that sits between the wing mirror and the door has some paint missing.
It's on the part that returns at 90 deg to the door glass and it's about 1 inch long. Is this a regular thing on them? It's strange as it faces the wrong way to get hit by a stone and, with me not being in the habit of doing 70mph in reverse causing a stone to whack it, I can't see what's happened to cause this. No real biggie as it'll just be a bit extra for the paint shop to do when it goes in to lose the stone chips. Just do a trip to the stealer in the morning for some touch up stuff for now. |

I think this is a known weak point on all E46 M3's, not sure what causes it though.

seem to remember something on the lines of a poor quality primer on the aluminium base of the mirror causing the top coat in some instances to lift. I've only experienced this on an 02 E46 M3 which completely blow off the top coat during a weekend jet wash!! |

Thanks Ben,
It did get a once over with the jet wash today so that's likely to be it. |
