Default Anyone know JIC Cross Ti Exhausts ?

Its funny how things turn out,

While I was looking for a Superprint Lightwieght Race exhaust, I stumbled across a JIC Cross Ti system in a friend's garage. I remember this brand being the most expensive backbox out there. They were sold like $4-5K back in the day.
He said he only used it for two months and then sold the car and he removed it. When I tried to lift it, it was literally feather weight. It is quoted to be around 7.3kg ! Welding and finish looks top notch too.

I am tempted to try it on my CSL, I am not sure if there are any power gains but even a lack of power loss is good enough for me as my main purpose would be to save weight and have a little bit louder exhaust note.

Does anyone have any info or experience regarding these exhausts ? Any input is appreciated.

I doubt you'll find many people in the UK that have heard of JIC Magic exhausts.

You'll find much more feedback on the m3forum.net imo, i've seen the exhaust you're talking about before, I contemplated one years back but I ended up striking it lucky and getting a Dixis before I stupidly sold it.

To be honest, as long as its not offensively loud, most of the titanium exhausts are nice, I've got a Ti Mate one on my car which is the same as the Braille exhaust, it's track legal and sounds really nice as well as being lighter than std.

Anyway JIC's website is here: http://jic-magic.com/

Don't buy cheap exhausts, they drone and make all sorts of love it or hate it noises.

Just personal experience, I fitted a 83mm stainless steel exhaust and the CSL felt strong. Sound was loud and the drone was kind of nuts. Not ideal.

Eventually I managed to locate a rare DIXIS titanium exhaust and from my research they are the best sounding titanium exhausts you can put on an E46 M3/CSL. Indeed, the sound was more sophisticated and drone was minimal compared with the older one and even a friends GruppeM. GruppeM is louder and more drone.

If you have to go Titanium go across the pond and see if you can locate someone selling a DIXIS. Its not OTT, but really produces a awesome sound out of the S54. Search around and you will see. Forget about the youtube video sounds, it sounds nothing like it in person.

If you are going SS, go Super Sprint sport/race or if you can locate one, Larini, they sounds brilliant too.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the link, I've been trying to locate the company. Been a huge help. I understand the material alone (titanium) is a good reason to consider.

On the contrary, this is one of the most expensive backbox's out there. They are retailed $4000-5000 new.
I am not normally looking for a Titanium exhaust. This just happened to be a coincidence while looking for SS Race.

No worries at all, if you can get the exhaust for decent money i'd buy it, you would easily be able to sell it either for the same money or for profit.

I'd choose the Magic over a SS Lightweight all day long, I'm possibly the only person who doesn't like the SS Lightweight.

You'd be hard pressed to find one nowdays Digi, Dixis doesn't sell them anymore, the value of them has sky rocketed, I sold mine (stupidly) in 2009 for £1700, I wish i'd kept it, I was trying to buy one the other week but the guy wanted £3k for it.

But thats the price for rarity, and probably the best sounding / quality exhaust made for the M3.

Isn't there quite a few more in the US? I got mine locally and it was decently priced. Just have to be careful when getting a used Ti exhaust as they tend to split and getting it fixed is slightly more troublesome than a regular steel one as they need some kind of Ti only welding procedure.

I'll keep my eyes peeled and let you know if I come across any on the US forums.

£1700 is a very good price. I say you made a good move. I'm sure you can locate one for less, but may take some digging around.

There are a few in the US, it's actually being lucky enough to get one, they don't come up for sale very often, I think I've seen 1 or 2 come up for sale in the past 12 months.

That is correct, if you split a Ti exhaust they need a completely different type of weld to a steel exhaust, it's much more specialised and expensive to repair.

Having said that, I've never heard of a Dixis cracking or splitting, I had my Dixis on for 4 years and it was fine, my Ti-Mate I'm running now has been on the car 3+ years and thankfully is still holding together too.

If you find one let me know
