Default Cup Tyres from 2008 - ok to use?

I have two lightly used rear Cup Tyres sat in the garage. Manufactured date is 3608. Are they ok to use or should they be chucked out?

Fine, just are likely to be a bit harder than ideal

There is no need to chuck these. They'll be perfectly fine especially for road but maybe less so for Track use, depending on how hard you want to lean on them.
IIRC their shelf life is 6 years.

I believe the general shelf life of tires is about that. Just be watchful as they are around expiry.

they will be fine for road use am sure.

tyres have a life of 5-6 years on a car but if you store them in a dry and dark climate there is no reason why you cant run them further.

anyone know what happens to older tyres? Do they go brittle and lose grip

Tyre rubber degrades over time, it hardens with age, develops crazing and reacts less efficiently trough their heat cycles. Tyres also have a tendency to deform with age.

Ok, if anyone wants to buy these for £80 for the pair and collect them from Walton-on-Thames then drop me a PM. I bought them from a member on here in 2010 and haven't used them since and am unlikely to in the next year or two, so someone may as well get some use out of them.

Tread depth on both is circa 3.5mm to 4mm.

Cheers

Phil

I personally would never use them for road or track - but that's just me from having personally seen a set of 6 years old Pilot Sport Cups delaminate at the track (tread pulls away from the carcass) ... If you consider your car to be worth less than a set of new Cups, then go for it.
