Default Calenders on location

Brought my Calender out to sea with me, here it is on the bridge of my ship in Brasil! They get about, where's yours?

Work offshore with the oil rigs etc. out in Brasil. Its a hard life but someone has to do it

And Andy I wouldn't call the bulkhead of an Anchor handler exotic!

You getting a good rotation out there Baz. Im in similar profession. Do you go mainland for rotation or back to UK? Im thinking about going to Rio next month for the Carnival have you been before?

Shake and Bake: Haven't been to the Carnival but lads on the other swing are coming out early for it, so must be good craic.

I'm on, or supposed to be on, 6 weeks on, 6 off. But as it turns out, after sitting my Masters on the 18th Dec, I got dragged away on the 21st with the false pretense that I Was coming home on the 28th Jan, only to be told I'm here until the 11th Feb. I'm sure you're used to that as much as I am.

And no, we (The foriegners) change out by chopper every 2nd trip as we do 6 weeks compared to the Mickey Mouse 4 weeks the Brasilians do. We go into port every 4 weeks to crew change for them though! No, they're not racist at all down here BTW!

A couple of Guys joined one of the sisters the other day and the engineer had his sweets taken off him as apprently, they're were not permitted to be taken onboard!!! The skipper onboard that ship is kicking off at the moment, its getting rediculas down here but I'm assured it's only the charterers and not the whole country! Just my honest opinion.

Whats your back round SMD?

Baz - Im in the UK at the moment moved back from the Middle East the end of last year. I try and avoid offshore as much as possible. Im more into the construction commissioning side of things. That sounds like a good rotation your on though. Although with 6 weeks off its spend spend spend

SMD - Well, we're obviously always looking for people and at the moment I could do with a relief!

www.careersatsea.org is my Firms recruitment website...I think but its more aimed at people starting a cadetship and working up that way. Its pants to starts off with but at least you get sponsorship, which amounts to about £8k a YEAR. I think, it was £6K when I started in 1997, might be more now. But can go upwards of £100K+ for Masters/Pilots on my side of things. Shake & bake there is in the engineering part of side, much more oportunities ashore when you get sick of being at sea!

Shake & Bake - Its a good rotation aye, especially when you're 2 days to get out here. 4 weeks would be too short, at home and onboard really. Would love it to be spend, spend, spend on the car at home, but now its spend, spend, spend on a darn wedding! (Suppose I should incase she has a wee nosey )

SMD- Tried replying 3 times to this at work today and each time I clicked submit it brought me back to the log in page asking for my username-password! Maybe the guys are trying to hint!

I am currently getting inundated with C.V.'s from people with 30-40 years experience in their chosen disciplines and a lot of my collegues are telling me the same. We rarely take on western expats for "on-tools" positions we would normally employ eastern workforce for this and western supervion,management.

In MY opinion you have a number of options.

1) Sit down and make sure your C.V. is suitable for the position you are applying for supervision, maintenance whatever the case may be. Don't print off 50 carbon copied C.V.'s as they usually do the rounds. Next sit into that lovely car of yours and drive to as many H.Q.'s as you know and harrass them (convince) that taking you on will benifit the company. It does work.

2) Specialise in a given field in your discipline. What I mean is I would be electrically biased in my field High voltage terminaters and fibre optic splicers would be a good example of this. Highly skilled and much sought after. I n your trade look to see what is regarded as a specialised aspect and maybe do a course on it.

3) Maybe you should look at something like HSE (Health, Safety & Environment)? It's a very well paid job with a lot of opportunities for driven self motivated people who want to excel. Having a trade yourself, to me is a great start as you would know what to look out for in your profession hazards etc. and would be worth investing in you from an employers point of view.

Anyway I'm sorry for rambling on I hope some of this helps just bear in mind this is strictly MY opinion as even if you spend some money on courses etc. there is no guarantee you will get a job at the other end. But then again is there any guarantees in life. (Besides BMW's wonderful extendable warranty's )

If theres anything else you want to know I'll try and help you out as much as I can.
