Default SMG - won't engage gear if...

Hi All
Am I correct in thinking that the SMG won't engage 1st or reverse (and just flashes the gear) if:

Door is open
Boot is open
Bonnet is open

The bonnet one is the I would seek most clarification on, as the one I viewed today wouldn't engage gear, until all of the above was satisfied.

Thanks

Bonnet just. Can move the car with door and boot open but not bonnet. Even if the bonnet is closed and it still won't engage, can be a faulty micro switch on the bonnet.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Baz
That makes sense - I went through closing the door, then the boot and finally when the bonnet was clicked shut the gear engaged.
