Sorry if what I said before might have been misleading. It is the Mondial Warranty that I have, which though the official BMW extended article, is presumably not 'AUC' as you say. However, as I understood it, it is pretty much the best we can do for a car which is too old or leggy for AUC.

My warranty had been responsible for replacement of gearbox, clutch, flywheel (I think) and diff in the few miles before I bought the car, which would have been a collossal price to pay as a private individual. Indeed, it was the existence of the warranty and these recent replacements that made me eventually plump for this one.

However, I can be certain about the fact that I simply took over the monthly payments when I bought the car in 2009 and have paid it since, with successful claims for things like oil hoses and a replacement rear windscreen on account of the heater element failing. I am in no way disputing anything said here by anyone else, just sharing my own experience.

Not in any way attempting to highjack this thread, but....

By the way - I might be letting my car go in a couple of months. I have just moved from self-employed to my own company and I am beginning to feel that a car such as this will struggle at 40p a mile.
It is SG '04 car with 49K miles, always (mostly Murketts) dealer serviced, including the running in service. The car has xenons, climate control and business cd, proper wheels and nearly new Michelin Super Sports. Being entirely honest, as I am quite fussy, it has one lightly curbed front wheel, and a few small chips on the bonnet / front bumper.
In addition to this, there is a 'bruise' on the front bumper about the size of a palm where someone backed into the car in a car park and there is a 4mm stone chip/dent on one of the front wheel arch flares where it was hit by a stone thrown up by an oncoming vehicle. Both would repair and paint easily no doubt and it had been my plan to collect a few more stone chips before making the bumper repair worthwhile.
Aside from that, the car is very tidy indeed and as good as its excellent condition when I bought it nearly 3 years ago from a very fussy gentleman. The carbon roof and interior are perfect and flippers only minor surface belmishes. I have always garaged the car and I have never tracked it in the 25K that I have owned it. I have both keys and the skeleton key, the alcantara-covered manual with all books, interior mats, the compressor and jizz bottle, warning triangle etc etc. The car uses no oil to speak of and is beautiful, unmodified and just as it should be.

I've gotta say that I am not 100% there yet, as it would be a real wrench, but I have a few silly cars already and perhaps I need somethign more sensible for my daily runner, which this car has been.

I'm not posting pictures or anything like that as I haven't truly decided yet, but I think it is inevitable once the Oil Service, due in 2K miles has been completed that start to look at this more seriously.

When it comes to it, the car will come up on here first, as that seems only proper.
