Not that it matters what it's worth mine is not for sale!
The asking price is irrelevant - it's the selling price that counts. Have you noticed that quite a few cars that have been for sale for a long time.....there's usually a reason for that. The right car at the right price will sell in a fairly short period of time. I have always been realistic when selling, each time I change my car, it sells within 2 weeks.

M500 is priced about right in my opinion, it's a 50,000 mile CSL. Having AP's does not increase the value by £3K - they have been fitted to the car and used, so they are now second hand and not worth £3K of anyones money, but if I'm wrong and people will pay that - I'll sell my own and buy a brand new set for a few hundred pounds more.

Obviously sellers want as much as they can get, but the guy asking £24K for a 116,000 mile CSL is clearly living on a different planet to the rest of us, and if someone actually pays that - then they have more money than sense.

M500 at £28,500 is realistically priced to sell. I'm sure he has had loads of emails from "interested" people, but they're aren't many out there with that kiind of money sitting in their bank account as cash. Most will want some kind of finance, or trade their current car first etc etc - if a buyer comes along with the "cash" and offered me the asking price for a car that I was selling......I'd snap their hand off immediately.

Ian aka EVLXGE is thinking of selling.
I have contacted EVLXGE already, but he is away on business at the moment so not currently possible to view the car.

I've had a busy weekend viewing cars this weekend. I went to look at the 52k mile car in Manchester on Saturday. This car was very well detailed, comes with new csl alloys with new cup tyres and brand new Alcon cup brake kit, front and back (<200 miles). 12 month, zero excess bmw warranty etc. all for a good price. Unfortunately I was not convicted about some aspects of the car so I have decided not to peruse it further.

Today I went to see the 27.5k car at NJ. Having looked at two 52k cars and a 30k car already I have a gauge of what to expect for the respective milage so was hoping for something special for this price and mileage. Again I don't think this car is for me.
I'm going to sleep on this one and make a final decision tomorrow.

So it looks Like I am still in the market for a low mileage sg car.

i agree NJ cars are very rough around the edges,

if you have the money wait the perfect car will turn up.

your in a good position to buy mate, so sit tight and one will come up.
i was the same when looking NJ cars are few and far between, some i saw had odd tyres, poor interiors, paint ect. but he's just selling for sellers a lot of the time so don't right his cars off as he does get a lot of good ones, and is a nice bloke.

when i was searching i looked at two low 50k cars and tbo they'd been abused. i went to look at one on a whim which had ticked over 60k and it had been looked after to a very high standard. bottom line is buy on condition not mileage, although i know under 60k is important for warranty, i just found the lower the mileage the worse the history. might have just been my experience tho

I couldn't agree more with Dave, that was also my experience for some strange reason low mileage cars seem to be owned by people who are illiterate.

They don't drive it and in consequence don't service it, despite what it says in the book 15,000 or bi-annual which is where at least two I looked at fell down.

Again I don't think this car is for me. I am not sure being a cash buyer makes sense buying from Nick. The cars are priced at dealer prices but unless you need finance or part exchange I can not work out what he offers over a private sale.

It took me a year and a bit to find my car, was not in any real rush and knew when I had found the one

BMW insist on bi-annual oil service as a minimum to keep the warranty, but you have to ask yourself if a car has only done 200 miles each year, is it really going to do any harm if the oil is not changed (provided the car is stored under the correct conditions i.e. not outside in the cold and rain).

If you are looking at only keeping the car for a few years, then you should only be looking at cars with impeccable service history, so you are in a better position when resale time comes.

However - if you are looking at a CSL a a keeper, say +10 years, then I wouldn't let a low mileage example that slipped an oil change put me off. Do you think that buyers of the original 1973 CSL care about a late oil change? In +10 years time, people will be "restoring" our CSL's, so engines, gearboxes etc will be fully rebuilt and the mileage / service record will be less important as the years go by. Obviously, the ones with all the history will comand a higher price.

Ask the owner of a £50,000 E-type if he cares if his car doesn't have full history - probably not.

There have been a couple of cars recently with less then 1000 miles which have sold and NEVER been serviced....they still got snapped up at a significant price.

So, in short, if you are looking for short term ownership, then ideally you do need to have a comprehensive service history. If you are looking for a "car forever", then I think it is less relevant. Only my opinion of course.

The trouble is oil degrades or brakes down over time if the car is used or not, this is the reason why it needs to be changed every 2 years,a lot of owners don't know this, hence the shitty service history on a lot of low mileage cars.
