twice this happened, twice BMW replaced the pump + rack under warranty. after the 2nd time, I fitted a cooler, as the cause was the fluid was boiling.

If you've had problems with your power steering, I suggest you ask your BMW (assuming they did the work) to replace the entire system - if the pump fails, the rack will be ruined too, a it will have run dry.

it is exactly what happened yesterday at Le Mans it is the second time !! first time was at the ring, after loosing a hose connector
i had to return home without oil in the pump/rack (450 kms). it was okay after just replacing the hose. Maybe the pump is now out

so: big oil cooler for the engine and oil cooler for the steering....what a shame, i didn't realise the csl wasn't really reliable for trackdays.
