Personally and I am not expert, I would get the Ferodo DS2500s or stick with what you already have ie. the Textar ones. I track my car two to three times a year at the Nordschleife and just change the front pads to RS29 for the track. The rears remain as DS2500 for track and road.

I tend to be quite mechanically sympathetic when tracking in that I do two or three laps and then rest allowing the engine, brakes and tyres too cool down.

More aggressive pads like RS29s are not only more expensive but also mean that you will be changing your discs more often. Fuchsrohre an old M3Forum member that many will remember from days of old was one of those who said there was not even a need for BBKs like AP and Brembo (track incl). Whilst I am not in that school of thought I am not sure an aggressive set up as are RS29s, is required for road use. RS29s are best and come into their own when hot and well used (constant use as opposed to worn down) compared to an OEM set up which may fade.

Others will be along I am sure but for road use unless you have money to burn why not stick to Textar or DS2500.

Failing that I am sure you could pick up a second hand set and give them a go. I have an old set of fronts (RS29) which were on my APs that are down to the wear markers that you can have gratis if they fit in a Brembo set up (look up my post in the technical section a month or so ago). I am not sure if that is workable. I do remember when they were new nearly hitting my head on the steering wheel due to the firm bite but then the discs were newish too.

DS2500 will be fine for 100% road use, but if you do 1% trackuse they will be no good and you wish you would have had Rs29

Agree with this. I would also say that the RS29s are pretty good on the road too. When I bought the AP kit, I junked the front pads that came with the front kit and switched them for PF01s. They work well, but very dusty. I've got RS29s on my GTR and they are strong.

On the CSL, I kept the pads that were supplied with the AP rear kit and they worked perfectly well on the road.

Yes perfectly usable but if your CSL was a daily drive, it would be a lot mores enable to have ds2500 or another road pad.

Cheers all for the advice. I've just ordered a full set of RS-29's from design911 for £480 all in, cheapest by a long way on the net. For some reason Porsche/Brembo pads are way more expensive than AP pads!
I've decided that I will do at least one track day at Brands soon and of course that will lead to an addiction so I would probably be making the purchase a bit further down the line anyway. I can live with a bit of a squeal when cold if need be and even if they are a bit dead when stone cold they wont be any worse than what I have now....

Sorry, I missed the part where Gav said to ask you.

I need two sets of E2405/T5104. The conversion requires the use of Boxster S front pads on the front and rear. I have just paid £476.02 all in. I'm happy to send them back if you can do better

DS2500 ruin discs. Better to go for the more expensive RS29 and have useable discs at the end of it.
