Default Geoff Steel Racing Splitters flippers paddles or whatever Review

So curiosity got the better of me and I decided to buy a set of these Geoff Steel Racing splitters just to see if they were any good ... I thought heck for 100 pounds worst case I'll just use them as a mold or to hang on the wall ...

GS Racing uses a wet lay up method to produce these (both for turn around speed and cost purposes), but I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at how good these are (at least for where you'd actually see the carbon weaves - i.e. head on, don't look under or behind it - being wet lay up it was expected). For a wet lay up, they've managed to make these pretty bloody light (lighter than OEM I think) and very thin and strong.

You do need to break out the files just to make sure everything fits smoothly (I had to file away a couple of high points on the inside of the splitter, but it wasn't brain surgery and was expected and explained when I purchased these). By the way Vicki from GS Racing was most pleasant to deal with!! You can get these made in plain or boxed weave or anything in between - they are happy to accommodate.

Pictures of them splitters:

Will post some fitted up pictures tonight.

For replicas I'd rate these 8.5/10 for construction and 9.5/10 for fitment and 10/10 for value for money - And being replicated off the MK1 splitters you know they aren't going to fall off at speed. Perfect for those track day run, or when you drop the car off at the dealership just in case they scrap them on the driveway.

NB> You have to drill the bottom holes yourself (which is better in my opinion when it comes to replicas) - easily done 0.5/10 for difficulty.

Lastly ... I have to honestly say these are even better built than the Vorsteiner stuff (I have a set of those and honestly the construction and finish is very poor compared to the GSR item).

Fitted:

The more I look at these the more I think they are the best alternative to OEM ....

I'll weigh them later, but held against the OEM in one hand and then swapping, I actually think they weight almost the same if not slightly lighter than OEM.

Photos of them compared to OEM ... As you can see, dimensionally accurate and the weaves almost correct. The fitment is the best I've come across for a replica.

Ah you couldn't resist in the end! They have always intrigued me as the quality and fitment looks identical to OEM and for once a good rep Splitter in the correct 1x1 twill. Great review Tom.

Yep, couldn't resist in the end ... glad I did though.

I just weighed the OEM and the GSR replicas ..

OEM = 107g (for both left and right )
GSR = 103.5g for the left and 110g for the right)

Must be the labels on the originals Tom you're getting as bad as Alex!
Looks like a bit of a 'steal' at that price, for the pair!

I saw these on a CSL race car build and they look like the real deal with a perfect fit.
I was considering these until I got my original MK1 flippers refurbished by Mark
At £100 for the pair though, I might still get these as a spare set and retire my Original OEM CF flippers, now that they look like New

Been looking at these for a while now. Might need to order a set to replace the one piece race lip from Vorst
