Question battery experts

I have a varley red top 20 in my 1600 cvh fiesta which has given up the ghost. I was looking to replace but the spec sheet says it good up to 1 Litre cars same as the Odyssey 20 ....
is this OK to use on a 1600 ?
The Odyssey looks to have a better spec just a tad heavier.

Any thoughts from anyone who knows about this sort of thing

oh and can you lay any battery on its side?

You are running nothing other than the engine on it Steve, it should be fine. Its not like you are running full car electrics.

Batteries should be stood upright.

I think most race batteries can (dry cell ones) but otherwise upright only.

In the mx5 we spent money on getting lightweight batteries then saw the championship leader had a tractor battery in the boot!

It was all about putting the weight in the right place!

Only if the location of a heavy battery benefits the car. In the mx5 you can only ballast in the pasenger well so the secret seems to be to get as light as posisble them put as much weigth as you can ovr the back axle

ah I see your point. I need to do proper corner weighting, last year I just got the car up to weight and put the ballast in front of the drivers to have an even (ish) weight on all 4 corners

New battery from BMW only lasted a month without CTEK charger, is this okay as car has not been used or started.
