Clay bar is the easiest thing in the world, and makes a huge difference!!
The first time I used a clay bar, I was amazed at the amount of crap that was in the paintwork. It really brings the paintwork up and gives it a deep shine. Makes it as smooth as glass as well.....hmmmmm Several mates looked at me strangly when I told them "I was claying the car", but once they saw the results, they all shot off to Halfords and have done thier own cars now. It bascially lifts the crap out of the paintwork that washing a car just does not get out, and you would be surprised as to how much is there, even when you think your car is clean! Get yourself a Meguiers clay bar kit rom Halfords, everything you need is in the box.

A guide on Claying, and a nice little youtube for you:
CLAYING (from Eldavo) Car washed and dryed? Do you feel better for that? Looks good doesn't it? But how does it feel? (WTF? First I'm patting my car dry now he's asking how it feels, what next a bedtime story and cup of cocoa?) Every day your car is subject to pollutants dropping on it, could be from trees, the atmopshere or a bird's bottom, either way they mess with your paintwork. So head to the kitchen and get yourself a polythene freezer bag, ignore the looks or incredularity from your wife/neighbours/psychiatrist and run your hand over the paintwork. It should feel as smooth as glass, if it feels rough at all then there are bonded contaminants on the surface my friend and clay is the answer. Claying, involves lubricating the surface of the car and then dragging a piece of detailing clay over the panel until it is smooth. Work in small areas at once, maybe a foot by two feet and keep kneading the clay over the surface. The lube helps it slide rather than drag and it should pull out all the bonded contaminants on the surface. It won't work in one pass, so keep going until you get the desired results. Keep working the clay and folding it back on itself so you are always using a clean part of it. When it is grubby, bin it. If you drop it on the floor, bin it. You only need a workeable ball/sausage of clay in your hands so you should be able to get quite a bit from one bar. I would reccommend the Megs Quik Clay as a nice introduction to the world of clays as it comes with clay, lube and full instructions. I tend to use the Sonus Ultra Fine (green) clay. Start with the least abrasive you can get away with, only switch to something more aggressive if absolutely necessary as the harsher clays can introduce micro-marring if used over-zealously. Claying will also remove any wax as well, so set enough time aside for claying and resealing the panels as you see fit. After claying, it is worth giving the car another quick rinse and dry just to get rid of any residues but you could just skip this and give it a gentle buff with a microfibre if you wish.

Yea not sure blutack will work quite as good. But claying is a totally different game and worth an hour or two, make sure you do the windows and windscreen. WOW! The wipers just glide in the most handsome motion. & most the time when it rains I dont use them, just rainx/wax the windows and watch the drops go into lightyear mode. The faster you go, the better you can see. Or that would be my excuse anyway to mr plod.
