BILSTEIN PSS10 on CSL Super Sunday
4 Attachment(s)
So finally I've pulled my finger out :smt116 and while I was mucking about with my Pikey ;) home made BBK Porsche BREMBO brake solutions (as per my other thread) at the rear of the CSL this weekend I thought it would be RUDE not to chuck half of my Billiys PSS10 On as well, while she was up in the air and all in bits, at the back
Only the fronts to go On now with my Ground Control adjustable top mounts http://www.ground-control-store.com/...ption.php/II=9 which arrived on Friday from sunny California :smt055  Some pix below  |
You have been busy Matt!

nice Matt :)

Very nice indeed Matt :smokin:
REALLY fancy one of these kits myself as i'm not looking to go the full blown coilover route. |
Nice one Matt. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on them.

Are you missing a washer in between the rear top mount and the rear shock?
The installation instruction specifies that you separate the rubber on the upside down "V" washer from the stock shock and use that as the bottom washer in between the top mount. If you don't the rubber mount can pull out from the housing. Otherwise -:thumbs::thumbs: |

Tom... it's not shown in the pix but I did wonder what the two additional washers that I found in the Billy box were for :smt017 as the BILSTEIN On line/PDF instalation file make no mention of their actual application :banghead: There were only two possible places to use these on the rears and I guessed right + I reused the O.E. V shape washer in the same O.E. position  but thanks for your concern :smt055 One other point of interest and mild caution for anyone considering installing this kit themselves is BILSTEIN put too much yellow paint on the top thread in their Germanic ways and the nylock nuts don't stand a chance of being fully "righty tighty" unless the excess paint is first removed from the thread :banghead: Don't ask me how I know :clown: |
Looking good mate!
Can't use the old "Im running OEM suspension thou" now! ;) Look forward to full road/ track report. |

I wonder how long they've been like that for :smt017 |
Tom, Matt, whats that about the washer, I cant see or understand where you mean :smt100
|
Looking good Matt,
Upside down unsprung weight saving too  Quote:

when you've fitted the ground control mounts get a kds/hunter wheel alignment done mate.
my right side shows 2 degrees and my left shows just over 1. the markings on them don't mean sh1t. |

Self locking nut, flat washer, rear top mount, upside down V shape washer, shock absorber. The upside down V shape washer is taken off the factory shocks (rubber damper removed). It sandwiches the rear top mount together to stop the rubber from pulling out of the housing. |

Self locking nut, V shape washer in the O.E. position, O.E. rear top mount, Bilstein supplied flat washer, shock absorber. I presume this arrangement is OK too  |

Thanks for the heads up Daz  |

Stop worrying Steve - you knew the risk when you bought AST :bigcry: :hahaha: ;)
|
:birdman:
its only a ten minute job to whip them off if I need to add or change anything.... I cant see anything different apart from the 2 x paper washer pieces that didn't go back on ?? |
BILSTEIN PSS10 on CSL Super Sunday... Part 2

Another great CSL Sunday tinkering with my precious :smt055 and at last I have the full Bilstein PSS10 suspension set up On  with Ground Control adjustable front top mounts to boot  No problems at all removing the old shocks, despite reading some horror stories about seized shock clamps, etc. I've tried to keep to the O.E.M. Geo of the old shocks as close as possible and my first mini test drive out on the South Cambs. RING proved very entertaining  suffice to say, she'll be getting her full Geo checked and adjusted professionally A.S.A.P. during this coming week
Some obligatory pix below  |

... and this is how she sits now on her new suspension and full PHAT CUPs :smt055

Looks good Matt - liking the top mounts with their camber marks

Front ride height adjuster is at its mid point... rear is at it's lowest setting as mid point on the rear made the car look like a dragster :banghead: |

It does look good, I like the red brakes behind the rims too. Get it set up to get the best out of it though. |

I'll get her Geoed up ASAP so I don't prematurely kill my precious CUPs. Any recommendations on set up ??? Should I get her set up to OEM CSL spec and then just increase the negative front camber for track work ? BTW... THANX for the compliment... it's extra special :smt055 coming from you ;) :hahaha: |
Rob, Shimmy, Alex, Daz, Dunc, me, T$ etc etc all ran very very similar setups.
Try -2.5 front -1.5 rear, slight toe in rear, slight toe out front. I ran -3 front, albeit not a daily driver, but when on the road I just undone the top 13mm and slid camber back to -2 which automatically brought the front toe in. I had completely even tyre wear. Get -2.5 set to inner on the top mount holes, then when you move back out after track day, hey presto back to -1.5. There is approx 1* adjustment on the top mount holes. Try this, see how you get on, Mark your topmounts, then you can experiment. If you dont like, take it back to your marks. |
