Default Clutch replacement Indy mech says no?

Hi,

After my utter shock at BMW not wanting to entertain changing the clutch under warranty I tried a good local Indy mech. He got the clutch apart and stopped as he said although he has the software to teach the clutch after the install he doesn't have the software for the hydrolic cylinder actuator or whatever it is. I've seen people have done this DIY so is there a way round this I should tell him about? I trust this guy will do a great job and am not aware of anyone other than a dealer who I trust to do this. Any help out there?

Hi Eddie,

We use Autologic software at Munich Legends, we can run a full gearbox adaption with that no problem. It's essential to do it following a clutch replacement. I'd be interested to hear if it is possible to do a DIY job

Regards

Hi monkey,

I don't understand the programming bit of this, I did my mech learning on a hillman imp! My guy says he has software for the clutch but not for something to do with hydrolics? I wasn't sure what he meant. Anyway he has put it back together, no charge. He said that he could do it but the car would then have to be trailered to a stealer for programming and that they'll not really want to do the programming because they didn't do the install. Any way round this? What do you charge for a clutch install? I have the part.

Cheers

He took box out, didn't replace the clutch, put the box back in and didn't charge?

Sounds a tad retarded to me. Even if he didn't have the software he could just take it to somewhere that did?

Sounds a bit like you were bullshitted to me.

Hi Eddie, sorry I missed your reply.

Seems a bit strange he didn't fit the clutch with the box out, I must admit! Oh well, at least you can still drive the car.

Maybe he thinks you need to open the hydraulic system, and that it would need bleeding - this is not the case. It can be done without opening the hyraulics. It's a real pain with the SMG compared to a manual box I wont lie!

I dont recall how much we charge for a clutch replacement, I believe it's between 3-4 hours but I'd have to check. Your best bet is to phone Munich Legends from 8am tomorrow, and ask for Stuart. Say you spoke to me on here and he will give you a quote no problem.

Our number is 01825 740456.

If you need any further help/info don't hesitate to ask

Ok so he didn't get the box out. He got as far as the gear linkage and then saw the hydraulic lines on the box (for gear selection and clutch actuation?) he didn't go any further as he looked this up and realised to disconnect and reconnect he'd need some software to bleed and set up which he doesn't have. Has he missed something? He sounded like it was impossible to remove the box without disconnecting the hydraulic lines. He is interested to know how you get round this if anyone has any answers.

Thanks

You definitely need to take it to someone with decent SMG experience, however good your Indy is, it sounds like he doesn't have any.
