Lightbulb Oil & Filter change

I changed my oil and filter today as the car is at the mid-point between services and i wanted it in tip top form for the Ring/Spa trip next weekend.

This was going to be a full 'how to' with photos but i found loads of similar stuff online already. So, i have simply listed that here for others to have easy reference. I found this a very straight forward job and it took about 45 minutes to do.

It was a fair bit cheaper than a BMW oil service too:

6 Litres of Castrol Edge 10W-60 - £56.65
BMW oil filter change kit - £11.43

Here are a couple of links that i found useful:

I just discovered, that "over here" in Denmark/Germany Castrol Edge is called Castrol TWS:
http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/...howtopic=20995

Both oils are the same, but with different branding. Mine had an oil change last week and I was wondering why BMW quoted me for Castrol TWS when more knowleadgeable CSLRegister told me to use Castrol Edge :-)

Thanks!

The display says OIL +0.5L though just after adding 5.5 and installing a new filter. Doesn't that mean I should add another 0.5L?

I know I really should read my manual, but it's way down in the glove compartment and I'm way up here in my couch!

After a change it tends to read between +0.5L to +1.0L (mine read +0.7L)

After your first decent drive it will settle at a more accurate reading and you can add more if required up to the max of +1.0L.

I leave mine at +0.8L or so as i do a few track outings and don't want too much additional oil floating around! I just add a little as it burns off over the miles.
