Hi 0836whimper,

The long and short of it is that it doesn't! But that's exactly the same as it is when it comes out the factory.

But bear in mind that this pipe is smaller diameter. There is a crush washer type ring gasket that fits over this pipe, and then this pipe slides inside the pipe on the rear silencer.

I'm not sure why they made it like that, but I can assure you it works exactly the same way as the original set up (but without snapping the flanges!).

If you ever see a set of pipes stripped down without the flanges you'll see what I mean, but I hope I've explained it well enough

Hi Shimmy, unfortunately I dont have enough sets to donate to the raffle at the moment

I have spoken to Dan about the raffle though. We're just finalising it, but we're heading towards a 1/2 price insp 1or 2, which ever is due and also a full day platinum valet. We have a very very good valeter working for us now, this will make your car look as good as it possibly can! Includes mop & polish etc etc. I understand from John that its BillyBoy who is sorting out the raffle, so I'll get in touch with him in the next couple of days regarding that.

Having spoke to James at ML last night I was ready to go for their clamp setup. But I'd booked into a exhaust fabricators last night so I still went. It turns out someone has mucked about with it before and the outer flange is damaged. The inner joint seems ok. They can sort for £100 drive in drive out. Quick fix as Munich is fast approaching.

The ML setup is the route I'd go if the exhaust was ok.

I replaced my rusted clamps with the Munich Legends kit yesterday.

Here's what I started with :

I managed to get three of the clamps off just with a small hammer and hacksaw, but the third was a bit tricky and access is hard. So I got a Dremel with the metal cutting disc and it made short work of the last one. Wear goggles if you do this though. Luckily the pipes were in good condition.

The hardest part in fitting these replacements is that the nearest pipe of the centre section goes quite a way inside the back-box pipe and you need to loosen the exhaust hangers to get enough movement to get it out. Some have done this without loosening but I didn't want to stress the hangers (they are 10 years old after all)

Following Monkey's advice I took the rear bumper off (car was on stands) to give access to the hanger bolts, which are behind a heat shield you can bend out of the way. These were really rusty and I managed to round off a 12mm nut in a socket so that is staying put, but the others came off.

After a lot of heaving and requiring two people I managed to get the pipes apart and get the BMW gaskets in place :

And then the clamps over the pipe flanges and the also the inners in place to allow clamping and then bolting together. This was also a little tricky as you need to get the inners nicely in place and also the gasket nearest the camera is soft and delicate and you don't want to damage it.

I think as fixes go it's probably up there. Ok, it mild steel again and will rust over time and they are also heavy, but it's pretty close to an OEM fix as it leaves all the original gaskets clamped in place as they were from the factory. Other solutions (e.g. the Peugeot clamps) won't achieve this I don't think.

Thanks to Monkey (James) for giving me a few fitting tips, like all these jobs it's always hardest the first time.

Rounded bolts are a pain and doing another job I also now have a rounded screw that holds a front indicator unit in place, any advice on that one appreciated....
