I have to admit that RS29's do tend to squeal particularly when they are cold on OEM Calipers, but as I only ever use my brakes to bring the car to a stop, I use gears to slow down, using the Gears = No Squeal.

I run RS14s on my AP brakes and they hardly make any noise (the OEM brakes of the M5 squeal far more...).
I am aware of someone that fitted RS14s on the OEM CSL brakes and I don't remember having the problem the RS29s have. The RS14 is a much softer pad (it wears out much faster) so I don't follow the logic of this pagid dealer. Btw, Martin can supply you Pagids in good prices. He is a top guy, great professional and a pleasure to deal with. Martin > What do you think in terms of noise between RS29 and RS14 ? |

Using engine braking will not excessively wear anything provided you match revs nicely on the way down a box, which of course a CSL does nicely for you. On track it assists braking in big braking zones. Roughly changing down a manual box will wear clutch and transmission.
Really, the damage is negligible as long as you properly service cars/change oils.

I'm just talking about normal, in traffic driving, I've never been near a track (apart from a Trip to Oulton about 30 years ago - I'm told).
There are no country lanes where I live, just lots of police which does tend to inhibit the performance characteristics of the car. Gears for gradual braking is the way I was taught to drive many years ago and it's probably the only thing I continue to do. As the SMG is an auto assisted manual using it to slow down is far more user friendly than a conventional manual IME.

I have RS29's on my porsche, I found the brake fluid made a huge difference in regards to Squealing.
Had new disc and pads fitted last month used with Sunoco R600, and hardly any squeal (at all temps) but i didn't like the brake pedal feel so had it changed it to Brake engineering dot 4 fluid last week. Now its embarisingly loud when driving normal. I have never known them to be this loud. Possibly will go back to r600 and put up with pedal feel.
