There is no cashing in for the manufacturers. It Is secondhand prices which have gone nuts. See Cayman GT4 and 991 GT3 RS.

Maybe its time AC Schnitzer, Hamman, or some tuning giant take the lead of AC Shelby and just improve an M car better than BMW 'stock M" models?
I would say that exactly. Maybe Schnitzer and Hamman and other companies are better in tuning specific BMW M models and not only. From personal experience i can say that Manhart does a better work from M Gmb. At least on my 1M.

Exactly this.

BAC of course. You don't have to negotiate it. Briggs brothers did an amazing work with the car.

I tend to disagree, imagine if Alpina got hold of a an 1M, M3, M4, M5 went back to basics and just made the bloody thing RAW as start by:
- lose all the unnecessary electronics, and gizmos,
- lowered the centre of mass,
- p54 b32 engine with water injection
- slightly better downforce on the rear...

Are you telling me they wouldn't have buyers queuing up?

I would be happy with an M5 V8 in my CSL.
But then trailers, deposits in the Customs etc etc.

You mean the S62? Like the M3 E46 GTR right? Ok, i will agree that the specific conversion is really great BUT i wouldn't do that on my CSL. Maybe in a usual M3 E46. First you 'destroy' a rare car and secondly you change totally the car's original road behavior. More weight on the front axle.

Seriously? The new M5's? A turbo one? I don't know about the cooling in the E46.

Indeed.
It would be very funny overtaking the 991 turbos and Nissan GTRs...
