I've found, with my standard suspension, that there is no substitute for Cups this side of slicks and I've tried just about everything. Main problem is other tyres just over heat way too easy, a problem I never get with Cups when everything is set just so with the geo, pressures, etc. For the track at least.

If I did much road mileage I'm sure I'd also stick some Falkens on on my spare set but right now both sets of wheels have Cups.

I reckon this cup thing has got you hooked.

And before you all say BMW designed it with them on as they are the best for the csl, what about the brakes/suspension which most of you track guys change anyway.
So what we need is someone selling 4x 18" rear M3 rims to take slicks or 18" tracktyres in the market place?

Try a set of a048 mediumhard on 18s and check your times. I reckon you would be surprised.

i am going to use the following...

2 X 9,5x18 et 33 front
2 X 9,5x18 et 22 back
265/35/18 on all corners

or ( but probably the above...)

2 X 10x18 et 35 front
2 X 10x18 et 22 back
275/35/18 on all corners

-3.0 front / -2.2 rear camber ( adjustable suspension...)

and i will see what the outcome is....

but the "boys" in the other side of the Atlantic who track their cars a lot, are using the above tire specs...

and i dont know if it has any relevance in "our" cars but bmw is using in E46 s54
E46 gtr s62
Z4M coupe
E92 alms
27/65-18 front & 28/71-18 rear in 11inch wheels...( that is almost like an 275/40/18 tire)

What type/make of tyres?

I think this would be a good idea overall for track but I would be tempted to stay on the 9.5 and not go to the 10 as I think at the front you might just struggle on some of the faster tracks with tramlining. I suppose you could then real the camber in but....


Looking at the ET, could you get 4 similar rims and use a pair of spacers so you can rotate tyres. If I coul rotate tyres front to back I would double their life (fronts wearing out inside and outside edges and rears on the main tread.)

i think to i might end up with the 9,5 all round....
although guys in the other side of the ocean use the 10inch with no problems and they have some looooooong straights on their tracks....

is about the same running front backs and the opposite than changing a set of new fronts every other time...

as for tires probably A048 yoko's or 888 toyo's or if i can find the nitto NT01 some where in europe...wich ever comes cheaper.....

Dont waste your time with the 888, go off too quickly compared to the a048
