What was it?
I was interested to see your posts and the answers and wondered what it turned out to be?
I had something very similar on my old E30 Sport Evo. Virtually every warning light came on constantly or flashed intermittently, as well as the rev counter going berserk (no actual revving of the motor itself though). It turned out to be a failing alternator. Curiously, the only light that didn't come on during all of this was the red 'charge light'! Before someone suggests a duff bulb, it was good.

Hi mate
Good knowledge here as it was the wheel speed sensor.. as for the rev nothing was found to be wrong i cant rememember what george at techsport said about what the problem could had been wasnt concentrating to busy sizing up the bill as other things needed done Hope its not the alternator on its way out tho thats the last thing i need with silverston next week. |

I had exactly the same problem with mine, inc the revving.
Turned out to be a wheel speed sensor. Make sure it is a genuine BMW part not a pattern part. |

I had the same problem as the OP on Friday. The dash was lit up and the car revved without me being anywhere near the pedal as I pulled into a side road a couple of times.
A new nearside wheel speed sensor has fixed everything |

I had this last year. SMG amber cog kept coming on. I plugged it in and the offside rear wheel speed sensor was reading 543 km/h ! So I got a new one and swapped it myself. Easy job and done within the hour.
