I don't know which weekend you are referring too, but I was in contact with him some time ago to do a fair and friendly comparison of the special BMWs and he said the car is not his (his father's) plus he is only interested in Touristenfahrten at the Nordschleife and not in any other racetracks anymore.
My assumption was that at the age of 19, driving for 1 year, he got fed up of all other tracks.

The biggest compliment I hear from Cup 2 users is thread life. Some said It lasts almost twice as Cups. Which would be a huge decision maker for me as our Istanbul Park F1 circuit is a tyre eater.
Wet handling is also said to be better.

Every article I read or crap YouTube video I have seen only compares them to cup+.

I doubt there will be much difference between the cup and this.

Might aswell stockpile the cups off tyre leader in advance.

I wouldn't know about that but it somehow seems possible for Cup2 to be superior in many ways as 12 years is a lot of R&D time for improvement.

<coughs>

I think we need to take into account the eco-green requirements of the EU today, fuel consumption, noise etc etc
The original cup made for the CSL had no such compromises, it was all about grip and lightweight and nothing else (i.e. low temperatures, drag, noise, rain driving).

Some times things advance. Other times... not.
Look at the new M3/M4, fantastic machines but they are 1600+ kg !
You would expect that in 2014 they would be able to get them to 1500kg (like an E36 M3 3.2 with all extras), wouldn't you ?

Wet handling is a vast improvement but I'm very sure the comparisons most are making are with the Cup+ which we all know is nothing like the performance of the Cup. These new cup 2's are also designed with efficiency/economy (as Alex mentioned above) and weight in mind. When I think of all that, there's no way they'll perform like a Cup. If it's not wearing it's not gripping.

And with the new EU directive on road noise.

I had a good chat with a Michelin techy guy at Silverstone this week. No data comparing 2s to the original Cups, but as already stated a vast improvement over Cup+

I would say that if your driving is mainly track and you want to be chasing lap times then the original Cup maybe slightly faster, but if you're not chasing ultimate lap times and want a tyre that is great I track but also much improved on the road and in the wet then the Cup+ would be worth a try.

I use Cups on the GT3, but will try Cup+ next time - especially taking into account driving to the Ring, etc

Also to add they are planning on a wide range of sizes for these and will be available from your local ATS garage as they are owned by Michelin and often have good discounts available.
