One of the joys of owning a Classic is the tech that went into it at the time, braided fuel lines are a relatively modern innovation.
Rubber was common place for fuel, brakes and almost everything else up until the late 80's/90's. These dinosaurs are best left in museums and collections.
At the first glimpse of sun and they all come out to play, if it starts it's good to go. Unfortunately that isn't always the case and he learned his lesson the hard way.

unless fuel lines have been changed on any classic ( or even most cars over 10 years old) , the ethanol levels in normal petrol have started effecting the older rubber pipes, seals etc I try & only run my old Porsche on V-Power as it still has low ethanol content.

It's only relatively modern rubber hoses that are not effected by the ethanol

Never nice to see someones pride & joy be destroyed

A car of historic importance like that will be rebuilt. I've rebuilt worse vintage motors in our workshops and Simpsons have done similar to burned out F40's.
