Wrapping the whole inside of the car in carbon fibre for no reason other than looks (debatable anyway) and in the process making it heavier devalues it far more IMO
I would think all the extra carbon i have added will be a lot less than the cage or me in the car

Each to there own and if that's what he likes that's fine its not what i would do to my CSL and in my opinion it devalues it

try £150k plus with race pedigree.

i know a guy who has an ex soper dtm e30 in jagermeister colours and would track it at brands

he was told by BMW to insure it for that value and its now no longer so busy on track. Hydraulic jacks, ronal magnesium wheels etc.

if you are tracking it a cage is a must as a carbon roof n panels wont save your bonce so a good mod.

I caged my last csl and for track now I couldn't have one without a cage. But if I was to do it again it would be e46 m3 that I stripped. Gs carbon airbox, and cams and virtually no difference to csl once at that stage.

But then I think how much would it really devalue a csl to cage it, probably less than you would lose by modding the standard m3 come resale.

And as Nathan says, depending on pick up points of that cage, an hour with the grinder and carpets back and you would never know.

Looks great too.

Csl with cage drive fricking mega. Soo different to without, but mine was all singing dancing cage.

Contemplated caging my CSL and tracking it heavily, but concluded that the expense coupled with the devaluation would be too much, plus tracking regularly will only lead to wanting to race at some point, and racing a CSL is a very expensive business. There is a CSL on PH at the moment for £28k that looks like it's had some money spent on it and I doubt it will be an easy car to sell.

More to the point, a half-cage won't provide anything like the rigidity or full protection of a multi-point cage in a shunt, and as I got more confident on track, I got less comfortable with the speed and the lack of life insurance.

So either: (I) an expensive and well-fitted half cage in the CSL for racy looks and a GT3 RS patina, which Simpsons have done well but which I think narrows the number of buyers for the car or (II) get a standard E46, strip it, add KWs, full cage, etc etc and you have a safer car that is just as fast and that you can race if you want without the devaluation. I've got an E36 M3 track car for exactly that reason.
