After a lot of faffing in the form of "do I, don't I?" the airbox flap is being consigned to the garage on Monday.

Thought about sorting the coding of it to try and get it so it could be left in, opened at lower revs and basically getting it tailored to exactly what I wanted but, finding someone relatively local to do it is proving to be verging on the impossible.

Looking forward to the extra noise!

Good decision, enjoy the growl below 3000RPM.

You've got to drive it to hear it

Be interested to hear what you think once it's done.

....and the hesitation caused by too much airflow at low rpm . The flap isn't JUST for noise, it's to control the airflow into the engine at low engine speed to prevent this .

All sorted and the flap and relevant screws are boxed and stashed in the back of the garage.

Thoughts?

Hesistation? None whatsoever.

Noise? Yes it does come in earlier but not as loud as when the thing is in full flow. Not sure what I expected tbh but the difference isn't as much as I expected. I suppose now it's off I know it isn't going to stop working a la Shimmy

Called into the local stealers whilst out and about (new bonnet badge reqd), had a chat with the tech who works on M cars whenever they have one in. Asked about potential downsides and he said "none".

Talking about having M cars in, there were 2 CSLs in. One had not long been out after being a few months occupying space there. It had been sent by a local BMW indy who'd been unable to sort a SMG problem, turned out to be a bad earth somewhere. It was back in for a bent control arm. The other belonged to an uncle of one of the managers and was in for discs and pads.

Rare day for them to have 3 CSLs on site.

It is supposed to occur when you go straight to WOT at low speed, where the air flow into the engine jumps by an amount that the ECU isn't expecting to see (due to it thinking it has a flap controlling this).

At least when you do experience it, you will know why / what it is and know not to worry .

To be honest Mike, I haven't tried WOT from low speed.

Wasn't in a scenario where I could try that.
