Alcon disc replacement

I've just been through the mission and rather large expense of replacing the discs on the CSL cup alcon setup.

I bought the car with the original Alcon setup supplied by Thorny motorsport already fitted. I emailed Alcon and a variety of other Alcon agents and it was Dave at Ears motorsport that took the time to get back to me.

I ended up sending the front and rear disc/bell assembly up to him. The front Ali bells had cracked where the bobbins attached. This I believe is common with the CSL cup kit and attributed to a poor quality of Ali used. I don't think the semi floating Alcon design helped either.

Dave had a fully floating bell manufactured that fits the Alcon disc and refurbed the rear bell while fitting some slightly cheaper AP discs. Alcon would not supply just a rear disc and insisted on the user buying both bell and disc as a unit (on a 4-6 week lead time) Odd as they were happy to supply the front disc seperate to the bell.

I've attached pictures of the results. I'm super happy with the front fully floating design and feel much more confident putting some decent heat into them without the fear of them warping. Be warned they do rattle at low speeds.

Dave was brilliant and I would highly recommend talking to him if you find yourself in the same situation, I believe he has already helped out another forum member. He is very helpful, knowledgeable and has discs and bells in stock.

I've found that so many tuning products today end in disappointment and a poor quality so I was very pleased to have a well manufactured and quality kit supplied. It also worked out cheaper and quicker than a direct Alcon disc/bell replacement.

What sort of cost were they?

Very nice ... love the new fully floating design.

How much are the fully floating bells and bobbins on their own? Is it available for purchase? Would be keen for a set if they are.

The bells look like mine the way they float on the blocks they rattle like mad the way we sorted the rattle is fit 4 nissan skyline disc springs they let it move when hot but hold them in place when driving slow they are not too expensive

The third picture is the GTR with one on every bolt

Good idea with the spring clips, I don't use the car everyday so it's not a problem. The rattle was a bit disconcerting at first as i've never run a fully floating setup.
