I test drove one before i got the 911 Turbo.
The only thing what really impressed me was the grunt and the gearbox. I didn't like the way it eats brakes on track on how you have to watch the transmission temps on track!!! I think its a few spirited laps then in for a cool down which sucks after owning a CSL where you can spend pretty much aslong as you want on track. As a fast road car i guess they are great. Try a 996 Turbo if your thinking about a change..... I'm over the moon with mine.

I had a seat in one, didnt even start it. The interior was enough to make up my mind.

All the ones I have seen and spoken to on track days have over heating gearbox issue's, so they ave spent a lot of time cooling down

Driven one twice at 2 Silverstone experience days. Monster performance but they like a drink ! They were re-gassing them very very regularly. Made Oli Reed look reserved !
Pax in Lawsys at Donny also. Look ace in red....really suits them IMO. I think parts are pretty expensive (eg if you need to replace bumper) but will let the more informed comment. An accomplished, devastatingly quick licence loser |

Awesome cars, and for a predominantly road based car they unbeatable IMO.
I upgraded my discs to AP's and Pagid RS29's pads, race fluid and after 3 laps at Donny they were fading, stopping from 140mph+ down the back straight. - I think they might need more aggressive pads ie carbotech xp12-14. My gearbox temp was up to the temp where Nissan say the fluid needs changing, that was after 3 laps too. additional coolers can be fitted It monstered the juice on track. Depending on what year you go for, service intervals are too short. Tyres can be expensive. Although lesser performance tyres can be had for less money. Launch control on them is manic. Easily tuned to reliable 600bhp. They are a nice car to drive, very easy to go quick. Bit harder to go really really quick. I found if you drove it smooth like you have to drive the CSL it was slower than when I drove it aggressively. My take on that, is the wizardry in the trick diffs is better than the chassis is. It would be an awesome car to drive to the ring/spa and in standard form will do mid 2.40's @ Spa. Prices seemed to have halted declining too, and seem to have settled, surprising me as that was one reason why I sold my last one. I was scared of them declining quickly. There are a high number of great tuners out there. My mate tunes them and started on the import ones before UK release, so he knows his stuff. |
