Default de-catted exhaust MOT woe's!!

any advice would be appreciated-

non csl question but a quick one-
my son has a de-catted EP3 civic and is struggling to get an MOT test-
is a temp cat refit for the test the only solution?
How do all the e-catted csl's get around MOT tme?
