Correct Flap Operation??!
Suffering problems with the dreaded inlet flap - at first i thought it was stuck shut, so had a look about and read that one way of testing it was to get someone to rev the car to around 3500rpm whilst looking at the flap.
In this scenario it appears to operate fine. However! When out on the road the car is still noticably quieter than it should be, so i decided to conduct a couple of tests; Whilst driving the car hard at around 4-5000rpm, i noted that theres no change in sound whilst turning the sport button on and off. Second test i did was to leave the sport button off, and allow the car to rev out to 7000rpm. When ive done this before at around 6000rpm there is a noticable change in sound as the flap opens - again, this time no change in sound! Any ideas to what the problem could be?? Seems the flap isnt opening when it should be, though clearly the motors fine, unless the inlet pressure is too great for it to open against because its faulty?!

Why don't you just remove the thing? It's only purpose is noise reduction and removal takes about 5 minutes. Get it done and never worry again

My mate put the diagnostic on it the other day and showed me it working by running a test, very cool.
It had brought up a couple of faults in the memory. I think these flaps are regularly causing issues.

The cars under warranty, otherwise i would just be removing it. Juat want to get it right in my own head what the problem is before taking it in to them - its quite a drive and if its a £5 part then i'd rather buy it myself

From what i can gather theres no issues - certainly from my own experience the time you will get det is when your driving a car hard, and that being the case, you'd be in sport mode anyway

There are definitely NO issues with removing the flap. All it does is noise surpression (their way of getting around the noise regs I guess).
There's no impact on anything else. |

My flap was costing me 30bhp, it was only opening right at the top of the rev range. So, i can assure you are way down on paper, get it off.
