Default exhaust/manifold issues

Hi guys.

My car now sounds like a tractor, and the noise seems to be coming from the exhaust manifold.

Are they known to crack? The car is now running like a bag of nails at low rpm/part throttle. It is fine once the revs are up and there are no warning lights, oil is fine, no funny smells etc etc...

Any ideas?

Very rare. The manifolds are excellent quality. Are you sure it's not a joint further onto downpipe?

Had my hands round the join to the cats, nothing there, and the noise is coming from further towards the engine.

reading this http://www.cslregister.com/forum/sho...327#post101327

thread, could it be a coil pack? It clears itself the higher up the rev range you go. Worst at tickover (both noise and misfire/hesitation).

It came on suddenly, it went from perfect to borked in a blink of an eye

If your car is misfiring it will make the exhaust sound noisier.

Get your car checked ASAP and dont drive it in between.

A misfire can have many origins, a coilpack being one.

Other possibilities are head gasket issues- which seem very popular at present.

Where are you based? If you're local I will take a quick gander for free.

stamford lincs chap, miles from warrington.

One other thing, the car changing instantly while driving, would a coil pack/headgasket go just like that?

Only drive it where you need to and very gently.

A misfire just happens, like a light bulb going, it either misses or it doesnt. It will feel funny because its probably not running on all 6 cyl.

All sorted!

BMW service came out and changed the coil packs, all super smooth now.

Search keywords; coil packs, hesitation, rough running, mis fire, misfire, chugging
